Wiremu Bayliss

Ngati Toarangatira, Ngati Tuwharetoa, Ngati Tama
Wiremu’s journey in WLS began in 2011 when his overall life journey began. Tipping the scales at 257kg Wiremu began making adjustments to his eating and exercise habits which helped him drop 70+kg. After a 9 month wait on a referral, he was offered an opportunity for publically funded WLS in December 2012, undergoing the surgery in June 2013 after making the decision.
Since then Wiremu has become lost and maintained a loss of 140kg total since his journey began. He has been active in the WLS community and a spokesperson for better health choices in the Maori community, speaking at the Mana Tane Ora men’s health symposium in 2014 and other major health conferences. He served as a Brand Ambassador for PHARMAC’s One Heart Many Lives brand, encouraging Maori and Pacifica men to have their health checks, and represents the Tri Maori event brand as its inaugural ambassador.
He is a qualified and experienced adult educator, husband to a wonderful wife, Sunny who is herself an educator, and father of now three children, a daughter aged 10, and two sons aged 11 months and 3 weeks.
